I am global change biologist with diverse research interests that explore the ways in which natural- and human-induced disturbances (e.g., global warming, hurricanes, droughts, land use change) affect the spatial and temporal dynamics of populations, communities, and metacommunities.  

My research is rooted firmly in natural history, assumes an evolutionary perspective, and is liberated by sophisticated quantitative analyses.  It spans local to continental to global spatial extents, and may comprise a variety of temporal domains that range from snapshots in time (e.g. single years) to multi-decadal timeframes.  In addition, my research includes non-manipulative and manipulative experiments, enhancing the likelihood of detecting the mechanistic bases of change.

​Although I have worked on a diversity of organismal taxa including vertebrates, invertebrates, plants, and microbes, I have predominantly explored the spatiotemporal dynamics of animals (e.g., bats, birds, gastropods, and insects), especially those in tropical or subtropical environments (e.g., Brazil, 
Paraguay, Peru, and Puerto Rico).​

Finally, my research is highly collaborative and comprises a variety of thematic foci, including:
